Restmodern.de [leftover modernism] is dedicated to the “grayscale image of the city” and “architecture at the threshold of perception.” Since 2002, curator Oliver Elser and photographer Andreas Muhs have photographed and documented postwar modernist architecture in Berlin at the website www.restmodern.de.
Instead of featuring buildings that have already received widespread media attention as icons of their time, they intentionally select examples of everyday architecture that are increasingly disappearing from the urban landscape.
Only by “taking a good look around” can such constructions be recognized as the expression of an era.
